I love the freshness of lavender room and linen spray but I don’t like the preservatives that are sometimes added to the commercial sprays so I decided to make my own. It’s super easy to make and only requires 3 ingredients (plus a spray bottle).

Lavender linen spray is made with lavender essential oil, Witch Hazel (or vodka) and filtered water.

Essential oils are great but should be used with caution. I see far too many people throwing them around without a care. They are natural but very concentrated and should never be used undiluted. They can be dangerous if used incorrectly. Some are also dangerous for pets. Lavender is considered one of the safer essential oils but it should not be used near cats. Be sure to choose a good quality oil, not necessarily the most expensive and one that is 100% pure essential oil. Higher quality oils usually list both the common and botanical name of the plant that the oil is derived from.

ingredients for lavender linen spray

Lavender Linen Spray

Materials

  • 3 ounces (6 Tablespoons) Witch Hazel or Vodka
  • 9 ounces (18 Tablespoons) filtered water
  • 30-40 drops lavender essential oil depending upon the desired strength
  • 1 spray bottle (preferably glass)

Directions

In the bottle, combine the Witch Hazel (or vodka) and lavender oil drops. Place the lid on tightly and shake well for 15-20 seconds. (You do this because the oil does not combine well with water but will distribute well if you combine these two ingredients first.)

Open the lid and add the water. Replace the lid and shake again for 20-30 seconds. That’s it!
