*I have been compensated in the form of a Best Buy gift card for this post but as always, thoughts are my own.

2 weeks ago our plasma TV died – no noise, just POOF and no picture… right in the middle of the USC game! Ugh! But really, I can’t complain. It was over 12 years old and had never had a problem. I was told that the average life span of a plasma TV was about 8 years, so we did well!

Now it’s time to consider a new television. Of course, we’ll want it to be a “smart” T.V. so that we can optimize it with all of our devices. We’d also like to switch off our cable because really, there’s no need to pay those high costs when we can stream.  One thing we know for certain is that we’ll be using it with the new Google Chromecast Streaming Media Player!

Here are 6 reasons why we’d choose Google Chromecast:

It’s so easy to install.

You just plug Chromecast into the HDMI port on your TV to power and stream your favorite entertainment right from your phone with just a tap.  And you can still use your phone or device as you normally would. (You do have to have a TV equipped with HDMI connectivity but that’s pretty standard these days.)

Everything is all together.

We can watch all sorts of movies, music videos. shows from the web (from apps such as Hulu, Netflix and HBO), football games, of course, from ESPN, live TV,  and YouTube videos. We can even stream photos onto theTV from all our devices (and with Google Photos, we can watch those that are shared by family members). I’m especially excited to be able to use it with Skype because my family is not close by! There are over 2000 aps to chose from! Some ap services require a subscription.

No more Over, Over, Down!

One of the best things about Chromecast is that it’s made by Google and that means you can use your voice! No need to use the remote control to type in a title!  (THIS drives me crazy!!  Over, over, over, down.  Over, over down for EACH letter. I have no patience for that!) If I want to watch yet another episode of Monk, I can say “Okay Google, play episode 32 of Monk from on from Netflix on my living room TV”. Much faster!

You can upgrade your TV for less!

You can expand your home entertainment without buying a new TV. It’s so affordable that you can get one for every HDMI equipped TV in the house.

You are less likely to have lagging in your streams.

We have had a lot of lagging with our current system so I’m really looking forward to this. It depends on your wireless network and router, of course, but because of the work I do, we have excellent wi-fi. The Chromecast has a built-in 802.11ac Wi-Fi that connects to the Internet through your wireless home network.

You can stream music.

If you don’t feel like watching anything, you can listen to your favorite music. Phil is great at making playlists so it will be great to listen while cooking, cleaning or relaxing.

Some things to note:

Google Home, Chromecast, and compatible content are required to cast to a TV using Google Home.
Web-based services and content require high-speed Internet service. Some services may require a subscription.
