And welcome to Spring, as well !

While there is still at least 6 inches of snow on the ground and the temperatures have yet to be above 50, I DID see a robin yesterday and some tiny green sprouts from the Irises.  So I’m hopeful; I’m hopeful.  I can’t wait to be sitting on the patio with a nice glass of Sauvignon Blanc, watching the chickens strutting about and the flowers blooming in the garden.

By way of introduction, I am Shelley, a Registered Nurse and Mom of 2 awesome kids who are now in their 20s !  I moved from southern California to a VERY small town in northern Idaho about 4 years ago because I longed for a life in the country, complete with a garden, chickens, composting, hauling my own trash to the dump (which is a big incentive to recycle as much as possible) and clearing the land (i.e. chainsaw ! ).

My father came to live with me about 3 and 1/2 years ago.  At that time, I didn’t realize the extent of his dementia and other physical limitations that caused me to quickly assume the caregiving role.  It’s been life-changing.  Because of things that I’ve learned (and the information that I’ve struggled to find), I wanted to share with others in my position, so I began this blog and also a bi-weekly newsletter.  If you’re interested or know someone who might be, sign up at http://www.theledercaresupportgroup.com.  It’s informative and FREE !  Also, take a look at the video below…it’s very touching (don’t worry, it’s very short).

I mentioned that I am a nurse……my experience has mostly been with babies, both healthy and sick (NICU) so if you have any baby-related questions, feel free to ask.

Have a wonderful 2009 Blog Party experience !
