In the January 2017 issue of my Oprah magazine, I saw an article seeking applications to become an O, the Oprah Magazine Insider so I thought why not, I’ll give it a shot. Just this past week, I found out that I was selected to be one of just 50 chosen from more than a thousand applications!
It’s a year-long term (like Miss America!) and I’m not exactly sure what kind of adventure we’re on, but I’m excited! We are brand ambassadors for the magazine. We’ll be working with their editors and the brands who advertise in the magazine on influencer campaigns, reviewing products, attending events (online or offline….I’m not sure), “having our voice heard by millions” and other tasks or events to-be-determined. We have our own Facebook group and there are some pretty cool people in it! Many are bloggers with large readerships, some are entrepreneurs, others are writers, both prose and music and some are founders of non-profits. It’s an eclectic group of the many faces that make up the readership of O, The Oprah Magazine. We even have one male in the group!
Here are just a few of the members of The O Mag Insiders:
Joshua Perez is a life coach, speaker and author of “Satisfy Your Soul: How to Begin Planting the Seeds of Your Dreams”. You can find more about him on his website Feel Free to Grow.
Amber Mamian – mom to 5 through birth and adoption. Her blog, Global Munchkins, is an inspiration for families who like to travel. Amber is also a brand ambassador for the Temecula Valley Wine Country (which I mention because I love both wine and Temecula Valley!).
Cara Meredith, a writer and speaker and author of the upcoming book “Black and White and Blue All Over: a Letter to My Mixed-Race Sons”. I can’t wait to read it! You can find more about Cara here.
Rachel Simmonds – and English teacher and former NFL cheerleader for the Miami Dolphins. Her blog Rachel Simmonds Fitness inspires women to live into their best lives eating healthy and staying fit.
Taura Stinson is an award-winning singer and song-writer. She has written for artists including Destiny’s Child, Kelis, Kelly Rowland and Deborah Cox. You can find more about here. Edit: Taura was nominated for both a Golden Globe and an Academy Award in 2018 for her song “Mighty River”, the end title of the Netflix film sung by Mary J. Blidge.
Tonya Parker is a school counselor, author and speaker. Her blog The Real Chic Life is a blog for women looking for real fashion, beauty and life advice.
Follow along with us as we head into a Year of Adventure (which is, coincidentally, the theme of the O Magazine this year)!
